Castel Sant’Angelo

Hotel Casa Tra Noi Rome is one of the cheapeast hotels in the historical center, located at just 2.5 km from Castel Sant'Angelo, that, in principle built around 123 AD as a tomb for Emperor Adrian, has an unusual destiny in the art-historical overview of the capital.
In fact, while all the other Roman monuments were overwhelmed and reduced to ruins to be recycled into modern buildings, the Castle, through an unbroken series of developments and changes, accompanies for almost two thousand years the fortunes and history of Rome.
From a funerary monument to fortified outpost, from dark and terrible prison to splendid renaissance mansion, Castel Sant'Angelo embodies in the massive walls, in the magnificent frescoed halls, the events of the Eternal City where past and present are inextricably linked.
Many Roman families have fought for it, in fact it will be a stronghold of the Senator Teofilatto, of Crescenzi, of Pierleoni and Orsini families. Is a pope Orsini - Nicholas III - to make the Passetto di Borgo, which connects the castle to the Vatican City.
In 1367 the building keys are handed over to Pope Urban V, to request the return in Rome of the Curia exiled in Avignon.
From now on, Castel Sant'Angelo inseparably links its fate to that of the popes, whom adapted the castle as a residence of refuge in times of danger.
Thanks to its robust and fortified structure and at its reputation for impregnability the castle hosts the Vatican Archives and the Treasury, but was also adapted to the court and prison.
The long and varied history of the building, with its thousands transformations seems to have sedimented in the complicated maze of underground rooms, balconies, stairs and courtyards that make up the current structure of the castle.
