Hotel Casa Tra Noi Rome is one of the cheapest hotels in the historical center located at 3.5 km from Piazza Navona, which in Roman times was the Stadium of Domitian, a long arena more than 270 meters long and about 55 meters wide, built around the 86 AD and able to accommodate up to 33000 people.
After the restoration by Alexander Severus, and the present arrangement by Pope Innocent X, various types of shows and celebrations, were organized in the square until the nineteenth century; during the month of August, when the square was flooded by closing discharges of the fountains, even naval battles took placed.
The name "Piazza Navona" probably has origin from the naval competitions that took place in the area; in fact from the Latin "in agone", came the vulgar name "nagone" and finally "Navona".
There are three fountains in the square: the two lateral "Fountain of Neptune or the Calderoni" and "Fountain of the Moor" designed by Giacomo della Porta, while the central "Fountain of 4 Rivers" was built by Bernini between the1648 and the 1651 AD.
The Greek cross church of St. Agnes in Agony stands in front of it, on the ruins of the stadium of Domitian and of an old church still visited at the basement of the building; St. Agnes in Agony was originally designed by G. Rinaldi and completed in 1652 by Borromini with the characteristic concave facade, the twin bell towers and the dome.
